Jaap Koning

At a young age, I could not resist banging on and trashing pots and pans. After seeing Ravel's Bolero where the drummer/percussionist (in a plexiglass box) had the important task of living metronome I was determined to be a drummer, percussion player.
A drum kit was quickly bought from the hard-earned holiday money. Several bands followed and then the decision came to attend the conservatory.

After graduating from the College of Education I graduated from the conservatory in Hilversum in 1992. Majoring jazz and pop drumming.
I also obtained a diploma in Bandcoaching.

During and for my studies I played in various jazz and pop combos and an artist accompaniment band where I worked with Marco Borsato, Rene Froger, Lee Towers, Andre Hazes, among others. After my studies I was heard and seen in various musicals: Chekhov, Josephine, A Chorus Line, La Cage aux Folles, Annie, The Sound of Motown, The Glory of Gospel, and I was an orchestra leader in The Young Messiah. I also played in theatre tours with Vera Mann, Simone Kleinsma, and toured with Lenette van Dongen and Willeke Alberti. In addition, I played in the International Big band The Glenn Miller Memorial Orchestra and played at the Babette Verhoeff ensemble that included a Brazilian CD.

Meanwhile I have more than 25 years (drum) lesson experience. After having had a practice in Edam/Volendam for many years and after 8 years of experience at the Muziekpakhuis in Amsterdam I worked for a few years as music professional at a primary school in Amsterdam. I taught all the groups there, and organized the month's celebrations where pupils could present themselves. Currently I play in the Police tribute band 'Synchronicity'and work as a freelance musician.

In 2008 I opened Drumschool LogBlock. In 2014 I started the adventure, I moved my practice and Muziekcentrum LogBlock was born out of Drumschool LogBlock.

I Teach on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
